Course aims
To introduce the pedagogical basis for modern e-learning, communication methods in the Web-based course, issues of motivation, support and teacher’s workload. To develop competence in planning an e-learning course.
Brief description of the course
The course will deal with learning in a virtual environment and its different features compared to traditional learning. Detailed list of topics: virtual learning environment and its levels: social, educational, technological. Models of the virtual learning environment. The essence of learning and teaching in the virtual environment. Problems of self-management in the Web-based learning. Communication and interaction. Creation of study communes. Means of communication in the Web-environment. Learner’s motivation and learning activities.
Possibilities for assessment in the Web-based course. The role of a tutor. Dropping out from an e-course. Teacher’s workload in planning and carrying out an e-course.

Upon completing the course the student:

Uses different theories of e-learning;
Understands the peculiarities of virtual learning environment and learning in it;
Is an active user and developer of the virtual learning environment;
Is capable of designing and creating an e-course that is based on the chosen theoretical approach, supporting the continuation of the course and grading it.
