Course aims

To create opportunities for:
- understand and analyse the changes in educational leadership in contemporary society and techology-rich learning environment;
- understand different leadership approaches and implementation in an educational institution;
- develop competences to create strategic plan for educational institution and to lead evidence-based changes;
- analyse own leadership competences and planning development needs.

Brief description of the course

Leadership for 21st century learning. Technology– rich learning environment. Deep learning and new pedagogies. Innovation in educational leadership.

Various leadership approaches of an educational institution: distributed leadership, transformational leadership, empowering leadership, learning leadership, inquiry-based leadership etc.

Strategic leadership. Shared vision, goals. Concepts of change and improvement in schools. Change management. Inquiry based leadership. Evidence based school development. Living labs. Design or action research to change learning culture in organization. Quality assurance to support school development. Internal self-evaluation.

Leadership competences. The cognitive skills for leader’s performance. Personal development as a leader.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- understands the changes in educational leadership;
- knows different leadership approaches of an educational institution and how to use these;
- is able to create strategic plan for educational institution and to lead evidence-based implementation process;
- analyses own leadership competences and planning development needs.
