Course aims

Create possibilities for primary school teachers to acquire necessary theoretical knowledge, didactical and practical skills in music education.
Support the formation of skills and proficiencies in primary school teachers teaching music education in grades 4 to 6.

Brief description of the course

Developmental trends in modern music education. Innovative methods in acquiring musical literacy. Types of musical activities and possibilities to make music practically. Acquiring necessary repertory of songs. Composing and performing accompaniments for songs. Methods that activate listening to music. Working with the textbook and workbook. Analysing recorded lessons. Comprehending the content of study prescribed by the national music education syllabus and applying the possibilities in practice.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- is able to analyse works of music and find possibilities of teaching music in 4th-6th forms;
- can perceive and is able to analyse process of creating music;
- has knowledge of peculiarities of children’s works of music and the development of children at the age of 10-13.
