Course aims
To give an overview of diagnostic classification of speech and language difficulties – the difference of medical and pedagogic-psychological classification. Distinguishing dyslexia from general language difficulties.
Brief description of the course
Clarifying contemporary approach to speech impairment. How dyslexia positions among other learning difficulties; coping with dyslexia in school, the organization of learning support in Estonia.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has an overview of different speech and language disorders and of approaches to dyslexia;
- is able to assess the incidence of dyslexia, as well as the corresponding risk, apply appropriate intervention strategies.
