Course aims
To give opportunities to know the general principles and opportunities teaching students with mental and multiple disability in the context of modern inclusive education.
Brief description of the course
The general base of education of students with mental and multiple disability. Students with special needs in the context of inclusive education and professional cooperation. Creating learning environment (incl. multisensory environment). Teaching social, communicative, daily and motor skills. Learning through strengths and by doing. The challenges of teaching students with autism. Many opportunities of communication. The support of communication using pictures, signs and objects. Adapted curriculum. Valuation. The life - cycle of students with mental and multiple disability. The opportunities to learn and work after basic school. Supported working and job training. Preventing, supporting, ethic, mistreatment-related problems.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows the theoretical and didactic base in inclusive education and teaching students with mental and multiple disabilities;
- can use theoretical and didactic knowledge in practice, can create individual adapted simplified curriculum, notice the disabilities of cognitive development and use such pedagogy;
- understands the nature of the social integration of students with special needs;
- is able to see the adapted curriculum in the context of general education and special education;
- can see education in special classes and schools in the context of cooperation of different professionals, prevention and supportive special education;
- knows different ethic problems connected with people with mental disability (family planning etc).
