Course aims
To develop skills in scientific thinking for conducting research in educational sciences.
Brief description of the course
The essence of educational scientific research. The logic of empirical research. The problem and problem-setting. Hypothesis. Using databases. The analysis of the research material: writing a summary, comparison of standpoints, wording of conclusions. Requirements with regard to the formal drafting of student submissions: making references, compiling a bibliography, compiling records of articles. The procedures for defending a student thesis.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has acquire knowledge about the concept, essence, and meaning of science;
- can analyse the connections between society and science;
- has knowledge about the general bases of research, the ethical requirements of a study;
- has skill of finding information using electronic media;
- has overview of different studies and the skill to use different methods;
- has overview of the methodological stages of an empiric study;
- has knowledge and skills to choose and define the topic, to set up the problem, question, goal, and tasks of a research, setting up a hypotheses and control possibilities;
- has knowledge about the types of research, formal requirements on and forming of a research paper.
