Course aims
To develop knowledge and analytical skills in information and knowledge management principles, processes, methods, technologies and practices to anticipate organization of organization and community-based learning. To deepen understanding of concepts, theories, approaches, conceptual models, research methods and practices, their necessity for the organization, the community and the individual. To analyze the information and knowledge management trends, current issues and their possible solutions.
Brief description of the course
Nature of information and knowledge management, concepts, approaches, theories, conceptual models and practices. Information and knowledge management development stages and their characteristics. Information and knowledge management processes and mechanisms, systems and technologies; knowledge management and learning and information society organization, knowledge management and learning, and knowledge intensive organization, information culture, information behaviour, information competencies, communities of practice, information and knowledge sharing networks and virtual organizations; information policy and strategies, information and knowledge management assessment methods, information and knowledge audits. Information and knowledge management infrastructure. Information and knowledge management trends, current issues and solution.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has a systematic overview and broad knowledge of information and knowledge management concepts, theories, approaches, models, research methods and practices;
- understands the nature, objectives and role of information and knowledge management for an organization/community members;
- has knowledge about the theoretical trends, issues and solutions of information and knowledge management;
- has knowledge about the processes of information and knowledge management, their management and the development of information infrastructure;
- is able to analyse trends, issues and solutions of information and knowledge management;
- is able to relate information and knowledge management with other research fields and recognise and create interdisciplinary relations;
- is able to think critically and systematically, and work independently and set and investigate research problems in the field of information and knowledge management;
- is able to participate in professional discussions and to communicate with different target groups and is competently able to pass their knowledge by teaching, coaching or other means using English (or any other) language.
