Course aims
To create prerequisites for the development of knowledge about the nature, tasks and application areas of digital cultural heritage.
To support the acquisition of knowledge for working with digital cultural heritage, developing services based on it and introducing them to the public.
Brief description of the course
Nature, tasks and fields of application of digital cultural heritage. Organizations supporting access to digital cultural heritage and digital convergence. UNESCO and EU initiatives to create digital cultural heritage through programs and portals. Making cultural heritage accessible and using it in memory institutions. Databases for memory institutions and services based on them. Digital cultural heritage and educational services.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows the nature and application areas of digital cultural heritage;
- has an overview of the policy and strategy for the preservation of cultural heritage in the European Union and Estonia, understands the importance of the preservation of cultural heritage;
- knows and is able to use databases and information systems of Estonian memory institutions;
- understands the possibilities of digital cultural heritage in education.
