Course aims
To develop knowledge and skills that enable the effective use of social media in the work of the library. To analyze the nature of social media, operating principles, channels, development trends, current problems and application possibilities in the library.
Brief description of the course
The nature and principles of social media. Social media channels, purposes of use and application possibilities in the library. Content creation and publishing, content sharing, social repositories and combined data flows, social networks and one-to-one learning in the context of the library. Use of social media in eg designing collections, reference services, developing information literacy, in-house and consumer training, marketing, recruitment, internal communication, etc. Threats to social media. Trends and innovative solutions.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- understands the goals, possibilities and necessity of using social media in libraries;
- knows social media channels and types of social software;
- has a systematic overview and knowledge of the possibilities of using social media in libraries;
- is familiar with current problems and application possibilities of social media;
- is able to critically and systematically analyze the possibilities of choosing and using social media;
- can use social media / social software in library work.
