Course aims
To support the development of knowledge on structure and functioning of contemporary publishing system and bookmarket.
To create preconditions for obtaining knowledge on juridical regulations and book policy measures concerning publishing.
Brief description of the course
The role and fuctions of publishing in the society, social context of publishing. Publishing as a part of creative industry. Regulations of publishing and bookmarket; measures to support publishing. Structure of publishing and bookmarket: publishing of books, journals and newspapers, cross media publications. Diversity of print production, bibliodiversity approaches. Research on publishing.
Independent work
Reading compulsory literature, practical individual assignments.
Learning outcomes in the course
A student who has passed the course:
- understands social, cultural, political and juridical conditions of publishing system and their impact on publishing;
- understands the present-day structure of publishing system and the functions of agents in it;
- knows the concepts, problems and development trends of present day publishing.
