Course aims
The aim of this course is to explore the principles and practices of designing and implementing systems that prioritize human trust and ethical considerations. This course delves into the intersection of technology, ethics, and human-centered design, providing a comprehensive understanding of how to create systems that are trustworthy, reliable, transparent, and aligned with human values.
Brief description of the course
The course explores the principles and methodologies for designing trustworthy systems that prioritize human trust, ethical considerations, and transparency. Students will examine the implications of trust-centered design, differentiate between ethical principles and trust-building techniques, and understand the role of human-centered design in fostering system reliability. The course also covers socio-ethical aspects of system trustworthiness and introduces case studies demonstrating the practical application of trust-based design principles. Through theoretical insights and real-world examples, students will develop a comprehensive understanding of creating systems that align with human trust needs and experiences.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- situates the role of humans (as individuals and in social groups) and how they adapt and organize their lives around computational technologies;
- understands the role of human-centered design in designing information systems;
- understands how ethical principles, building trust techniques, and ensuring system transparency are connected;
- applies those basic concepts in the creation of more human-centered, trustworthy systems;
- is familiar with the good practices and methodology to leverage systems’ trustworthiness.
