Course aims
Obtain practical skills and theoretical knowledge in the area of 2D and 3D computer game graphics, design concept art and graphical 2D elements and 3D models for game projects.
Brief description of the course
Introduction to raster- and vector game graphics; combining vector and raster graphics to create characters, environments and UI for games. Different 3D modelling techniques (using primitives, block-out modelling, sculpting). Shaders, materials and textures. Basics of skeletal animation, rigging. Importing 3D models into the game environment (i.e. Unity).
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- designs vector graphics images;
- manipulates raster graphics and photos;
- integrates vector and raster graphics;
- has an overview of terminology of computer graphics in games;
- visualizes ideas graphically;
- knows the most important computer graphics tools and uses them according to the nature of the task;
- uses shaders, creates material, and applies textures to 3D models;
- prepares models for skeletal animation (rigging);
- creates animation files needed to represent game actions (looping and canned animations);
- imports 3D models to game environment (i.e. Unity).
