Course aims
To provide a systematic overview of basic psychology that is relevant for educational game designers. Topics include but are not limited to basic-, developmental and educational psychology.
Brief description of the course
This course offers basic and introductory knowledge about human psychology with an emphasis on development, learning and teaching. Topics include cognitive processes and motivational-emotional processes development, interrelations, regulations and specialities in the context of developmental environment. This course focuses on active learning; therefore the students have to do their own research and presentation for every class. The knowledge from each class will be bound into one big game idea presentation in the final class.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has the knowledge of basic psychology: cognitive and emotional development, emotional regulation, social psychology, and educational special needs;
- is able to apply this knowledge in the process of developing educational games.
