Course aims
The goal is to develop knowledge and general skills for visioning, initiating, planning and implementing software projects that support the achievement of the organization's business goals.
Brief description of the course
The course consists of five parts:
The first part deals with the main terms and concepts of the company's business architecture and their connection with the company's information systems, as well as the role of various key persons (business development manager, business architect, business analyst, business designer, IT manager, IT team leader) in ensuring the interaction of the company's business and IT side.
The second part provides an overview of how to envision a technology project, set business metrics and goals, create a link between business and technology, and analyze the feasibility of the project in business and technical terms.
The third part focuses on analyzing and updating business processes, describing and prioritizing project requirements.
In the fourth part, the principles of software and system architecture are studied, the principles of information security and personal data protection are introduced.
The last part focuses on learning about the most important software development methodologies, opening up the roles of the customer and the development team in the software project, and managing the risks and efficiency of the software project.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows the main terms and concepts of enterprise architecture and business architecture; understands their relationship with information systems;
- knows and can describe the business vision, goals, metrics of technology projects and analyze the business and technical key points of technology projects;
- can analyze, model and update the organization's business processes, knows the basic methodological techniques related to updating business processes;
- knows and can use at least one information system strategic analysis and business modeling methodology;
- can plan and describe information system requirements and architecture;
- knows various important software development methodologies, their advantages and risks;
- knows the role of the manager and the customer in the software development process;
- can create and analyze connections between the organization, its strategy and the information system;
- can perform the roles of business architect, business analyst and business designer in information system strategic analysis projects.
