Course aims
To develop a systematic understanding about the role of learning environment in networked learning and to provide opportunities to acquire theoretical knowledge and practical skills for effectively creating, using and managing virtual learning environments.
Brief description of the course
The history of educational technology. The role of learning environment in a networked learning. Virtual learning environments and learning management systems. Distributed and personal learning environments. Using social media applications for learning environments and networks. Technologies and standards related to virtual learning environments. Pedagogical principles for designing learning environments and networked learning. Open education. e-Portfolios. Digital competence. Distance learning. 1:1 computing and mobile learning environments. Smart learning environments. Trends and future directions of learning environments.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- describes the role of learning environment in a networked learning;
- designs and organizes consciously their personal learning environment;
- chooses an appropriate learning management system for conducting the course and develops a prototype of an online course;
- analyzes the suitability of digital tools according to the learning activities, combines and uses them successfully as a learning environment;
- analyzes the current topics, research studies and trends related to learning environments.
