Course aims
The aim of the course is to provide an overview of the development of the IT management profession and the corresponding concept system as well as knowledge of methods and tools used in IT management, and to develop skills for their use.
Brief description of the course
Introduction to the course. Development of the concept of an IT manager in Estonia. IT manager as project and project portfolio manager. Cooperation tools used in IT management (Jira, Confluence, Office365, Slack, etc.), including their use in international consortia (consideration of cultural differences, etc.). Use of system analysis tools for IT management. Institutions that shape technology trends. Case studies for specific types of companies (eg microenterprises, large companies, IT management companies).
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows the history of the evolvement of the concept of IT management in Estonia;
- has an overview of the IT manager's techniques for project management and project portfolio management;
- can use the most commonly used collaborative and analytical tools in management;
- knows the most important institutions, standards, frameworks, strategies, development plans, development trends and visions in the area of IT management, both in Estonia and internationally;
- understands the specifics of the role of IT management for specific types of businesses.
