Course aims
To provide a thorough practical overview of the most common learning management systems (incl. Moodle, ILIAS, Eliademy, VIKO and Krihvel used in Estonia), focusing mainly on the Moodle system - managing its modules, creating and conducting courses
Brief description of the course
Topics covered in the course:
Definition, goals and possibilities of learning management systems. Learning analytics as part of the ÕHS. Learning management systems used in Estonian educational institutions (VIKO, Krihvel, Moodle, Eliademy, ILIAS, Edmodo, eDidaktikum, Edutizer) possibilities of their use and administration.
Accommodation and administration services for learning management systems provided by HITSA Innovation Center and private companies.
Brief introduction of learning management systems common in other parts of the world (Sakai, Fronter, ILIAS, Docebo, Schoology, Canvas, Joomla LMS, Blackboard, ClassDojo, Google Classroom, MS OneNote Class, etc.).
Selection of the study management system according to the target group, the peculiarities and possibilities of the institution and the needs of teaching.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- understands the nature and goals of learning management systems;
- knows the learning management systems used in Estonia at the level of Moodle, Krihvel, VIKO, ILIAS, Eliademy learner / teacher / administrator;
- is familiar with the possibilities and services of the virtual server environment concentrated under the Innovation Center of the Education Information Technology Foundation for the installation / use of learning management systems and the use of demo accounts;
- is familiar with learning management systems common in other parts of the world at the level of the average user (based on demo versions);
- is able to analyze the needs of the institution's e-learning support and choose a suitable learning management system or environment.
