Course aims

Introducing XML possibilities. Using XML in own applications.

Brief description of the course

XML application areas, good and bad sides. History of language, technical
possibilities. Syntax - elements and attributes. Describing complex types. Changing structure of document. Using XML in different programming languages: R, PHP,. Data trees and DOM. Big documents and SAX. XML in databases. Different XML-based formats: WML, XHTML, RSS.. Using apps. In practical lessons and in homework students make different XML applications.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- knows structure of XML and JSON;
- can read and change configuration files written in XML;
- can design and write down XML-structure of data;
- can add XML input and output to his programs;
- knows most popular XML-based markup languages.
