Course aims
Major subject for IT students and minor subject for other students. The objective of the course is to give theoretical knowledge about computers setup, parts and overview of hardware manufacturers.
Brief description of the course
Introduction to hardware course. Computers case, power supply units and their types, UPS. Motherboard, CPU, system buses, chipset. Memory, memory bus, BIOS, RAM, cache. System resources, IRQ, DMA, I/O ports. Storage devices, hard disk, floppy disk, CD-ROM. Controllers.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
Knows the components of computer hardware and their functions;
Can evaluate the suitability of main hardware components with other components;
Understands the thoretical base of hardware and the functioning principles of computersystems;
Knows the main technologies regarding hardware and their main flaws.
