Course aims
To give knowledge and skills of making dietary recommendations to people of different ages and supporting their quality of life by avoiding dietary errors in case of possible nutrient malabsorbtion and age-related processes.
Brief description of the course
Age-related pecularities of nutrition. Disorders connected with eating habits. Factors that make eating difficult. Malnutrition. Social aspects in making recommendations. Nutritional needs. Medications and nutrition. Pregnant, nursing mothers. Babies, children, adolescents. Middle-aged - weight loss, health sports. Seniors.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- characterizes the health risks associated with eating behavior and supports different aged people to avoid risks arising from nutritional errors;
- provides nutritional recommendations for people of different ages;
- prepares menus for people of different ages and needs.
Additional information
To pass the subject you need:
1) pass two intermediate tests positively
2) prepare at least 2 menus for the target group as a group work (a 10-12 meals)
3) think of the topic, principles, main messages and content of the presentation for the selected target group after 1-2 minutes, present it to others within approx. 20 minutes (what and how you would do it, also a small example)
4) prepare a newsletter in pairs and present it to others within about 5-10 minutes
5) participate in discussions related to target groups in class. In case of absence, the classwork is replaced by homework of the corresponding content."
