Course aims
To provide intermediate-level knowledge and skills in all aspects of the Japanese language (kanji characters and writing, reading, speaking, listening, grammar, translation).
Brief description of the course
During the course, various texts on Japanese society and culture will be read and translated. The student will handwrite an essay on a given topic, using the grammar and vocabulary learned. The student will also acquire the skill to use both phonetic and kanji dictionaries. The course focuses on 237 kanji characters and the related vocabulary. The student will gain vocabulary and grammar related to presenting arguments for and against a topic. Active participation in language classes and the completion of all homework assignments by the deadline are expected from the student.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows approximately 900 kanji characters (including A1, A2, and B1 kanji characters), is familiar with the related vocabulary and can use it;
- understands and can form long sentences using the learned grammar and vocabulary;
- is able to read long texts and write essays on a given topic;
- is able to translate from Estonian into Japanese and vice versa long and complex sentences using vocabulary and grammatical expressions learned during classes;
- is able to talk on familiar topics and express his opinion, using appropriate grammatical expressions and vocabulary.
