Course aims
To give an overview of the basic aspects of Turkology; to give students basic knowledges for attending more detailed lectures in the field.
Brief description of the course
Within the course there will be introduced the populations and the residences of Turkic nations; the historical development of Turkic languages; more important Turcology centers in Turkey and in Europe countries; the most important Turkologs in the fields of Turkic languages and Turkish history; books connected with Turcology, available in Tallinn University Library and in the Center of Turkish of the same university; documents about Turkish history in Estonian State Archives and in Estonian History Archives; the history and the culture of Turkic countries (except Turkey). In two seminars students present Estonian Turkic nations, Estonians who have dealt with Turkology. A visiting lecturer of Turkic origin will introduce the culture of his/her homeland.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has necessary knowledge enabling him to attend futher lectures about Turkology.
