Course aims
The objective of the course is to help students understand the ethical, aesthetic and other aspects that have been completely ignored or underestimated when thinking about the natural environment. Moreover, the course aims at providing knowledge of the most important concepts and theories as well as thinkers who have had a major impact on the field of environmental philosophy.
Brief description of the course
The course focuses on the following questions: meaning of the natural environment, relationship between the humans and the nature, rights of other species, aesthetic value of the nature, moral status of the endangered species etc.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows the most important concepts, theories, and thinkers of environmental philosophy;
- is able to independently read the texts of environmental philosophy and to draw connexions;
- is able to independently analyse the most important problems of the environmental philosophy and to apply these skills for solving practical problems;
- is able to assess the ecological footprint of different actions and understands their impact on the nature.
