Course aims
The purpose of this course is to understand philosophical problems connected to the phenomenon of culture.
Brief description of the course
Course will consist of lecture series and seminars that are dedicated to philosophical problems related to conceptualizing culture by opening up different aspects of cultural meaning-making, for instance creating cultural self-image and different collective identities. In addition we will address cultural memory techniques, the relationship of writing and memory, qualities of artificial environments and fictive objects, hyper-realistic objects and simulacrums. We will look at widely used techniques for cultural analysis and phenomenological approach towards cultural phenomena. Moving through all these topics we will try to understand and figure out how culture dependent are perception and meaning making.
The course is partly online-course: There is a website created for the course in Moodle study environment, where you can find recordings of lectures, assignments and literature for independent work. All the participant have to sign in. Seminars will be auditory and participation in seminars will presume working through corresponding materials.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
The student will have basic knowledge on cultural philosophy and elementary skills to philosophically analyze cultural phenomena and he/she will know the philosophical analytical techniques used for cultural phenomena.
