Brief description of the course
The course involves reading selected texts from ancient, medieval, modern, and contemporary philosophy and engaging closely with their content through the use of secondary literature. The texts are discussed both orally and in writing through classroom work and homework assignments. The course develops skills in reading and analysing philosophical texts as well as presenting ideas based on the readings both individually and in groups.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- reads, understands and analyses philosophical texts;
- has a more in-depth knowledge of selected core texts and analyses their structure as well as the main ideas, arguments and questions presented in them;
- understands the significance of the texts read from the broader perspective of the history of philosophy and culture;
- presents philosophical ideas from different periods, both individually and in group work, in oral and written form.
