Brief description of the course
The course analyses a series of social movements (Spanish nationalisms, FARC, Ciudad Juarez, 15M...) from multiple countries. Causes, developement (with a special focus on audiovisual and social media) and possible implications in the future of these movements will be studied through presentations, debates and critical analysis of screenings.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
Students will be able to use the press in Spanish as a starting point to access a more subjective range of information coming from the social movements in order for them to compare what is presented by the media and the real challenges of the communities that in many cases struggle to achieve a move forward for social and human rights. Students will be able to interpret satirical vignettes, documentaries, short movies and other audiovisual material in order to find arguments to support their position regarding these social movements.
