Course aims
Facilitate discussion on significant issues in British society and culture, develop critical reading of historical sources and the basics of independent research.
Brief description of the course
The seminar seeks to examine various important aspects of British society and culture within their historical framework. The discussions are supplemented by the reading of historical documents, and the use of audio and video materials.
Independent work encompasses the reading of texts, finding answers to questions in the worksheets, looking for material for presentations and the writing of an essay.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
Knowledge of topics and their historical relationships discussed during the seminar, skills to read and interpret historical documents (locate the main idea, draw conclusions and inferences, separate fact from opinion) and ability to transfer the acquired knowledge and skills to other domains.
