Course aims
Süvendatud teadmised inglise renessanssist; analüütiliste oskuste arendamine.
Brief description of the course
English Renaissance as a time of rise of national awareness and cultural flourishing. English and European Renaissance. Man/Male centeredness. The female/feminine, her part and image in literature. Women as muses and authors. Today’s problems in Renaissance literature (colonial policy, feminist/nature discourse, race and ethnicity, me and the world, etc.). Renaissance poetry (Spenser, Sydney). J. Lyly. Shakespeare´s Hamlet, The Tempest, Sonnetts. Malowe´s Doctor Faustus. Conclusions.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
Ability to grasp general problems of English Renaissance literature and culture, connecting them to world/European/contemporary cultural issues. base for a deeper study of later literature. Analytical skills. Motivation for further research.
