Course aims
To provide an overview of the basic premises of feminist criticism and 20th century British women writers.
Brief description of the course
Less known British women writers of the beginning of the 20th century. Contact points between feminism and postmodernism. Feminist interpretations of myth and fairy tale. Female characters in visual culture, media and history and its relation to literature. Games with history, gender and language. Contemporary women writers. Issues of national identity and gender. Ecofeminism.
The course consists of lectures and seminars.
Independent work: compulsory reading (theoretical and literary texts), preparation for seminars.
Study methods: lecture, seminar, discussion, pair and group work.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
Knowledge of 20th century British women writers and key themes related to their writings (gender issues, mechanisms of the construction of identity). Development of analytical reasoning skills. Motivation for further research in the field.
