Course aims
To create possibilities for orientating in the present-day Estonian field of culture and for knowing contemporary aesthetics of different arts and the work of most important artists.
Brief description of the course
Cultural field in present-day Estonia. Cultural politics, main institutions and documents.
Main trends in the arts, the key figures and artworks: theatre, film, visual arts, music, literature. Folk culture in contemporary Estonia. Estonian-Russian culture.
Contemporary media culture and its influence on the arts.
Estonian culture in the globalising world: relationships and influences.

Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows main fields of Estonian contemporary culture, most important cultural institutions and key figures;
- is able to analyse critically contemporary trends of Estonian culture, and to discuss relatsionships of Estonian and world culture.
