Course aims

Review of Estonian lexicology, phraseology and word formation, enriching vocabulary.

Brief description of the course

Branches and main terms of Estonian lexicology. Social layers and functoins of vocabulary. Change and enrichment of vocabulary. Word meaning and its change: polysemy and word collocations. Review of Estonian word formation system. Links between word mening and structure. Main terms of derivation, stem changes in derivated words, meaning classes of siffixes. Compound words and word collocations, ortography problems.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
Student is familiar with all terms discussed during the course, can give original examples to theoretical material and use their theoretical knowledge in practical exercises.
