Course aims
The main objective of the course is to provide students with essential knowledge of certain aspects of linguistic research work as well as preparation of the working paper. Skills in oral and written expression are improved.
Brief description of the course
Topical issues in Estonian as a second language are considered and discussed jointly, the language-related research methodology is introduced, a presentation based on a working paper is given, (as detailed as possible) working paper project is compiled, two papers on its theoretical and methodological background are presented.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
1. A student has chosen an interesting field of research and is able to prepare a working paper (project) in this field of study.
2. A student knows the basic principles of conducting research and its stages and is able to apply their knowledge in conducting the study.
3. A student is able to search for necessary literature while conducting their study.
4. A student is able to meet the requirement of quoting and citing, reference.
5. A student is aware of the ethical principles for conducting research and follows them while doing the research.
6. A student is able to present orally and defend their research, knows basic principles of oral presentation and participation in discussion.
