Course aims
To create prerequisites for acquiring basic knowledge of the structure and grammar of the Finnish language. Develop vocabulary. To create the prerequisites for the acquisition of oral and written language skills in Finnish at level A1 according to CEFR levels. To give first knowledge of the Finnish-speaking culture.
Brief description of the course
Basics of Finnish grammar and pronunciation. Developing four skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing) through communicative activities. Vocabulary of priority areas of life (introduction of yourself and family members, description of simpler activities, food, public transport, leisure, etc.). Basic knowledge of Finnish culture and society. Extracts from Finnish TV and radio programs and films and cultural events related to Finland will be used as study material.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- understands familiar words and phrases that are related to familiar and important areas;
- can apply the acquired knowledge, ask questions and answer using purposeful vocabulary and learned grammatical constructions;
- can use simple phrases and sentences to describe his family, other people and living conditions, can write a short and simple message;
- has acquired first-hand knowledge of Finnish culture and contemporary Finnish society.
