Course aims
Give an overview of the most important texts and the authors of Finnish literature in the historical-cultural and social context; introduce the importance of the texts for Finnish cultural and national identity.
Brief description of the course
An overview of the most important texts and the authors of Finnish literature from folklore and „Kalevala“ to nowedays and the authors Elias Lönnrot, Aleksis Kivi, Minna Cantth Juhani Aho, Maria Jotuni, Eino Leino, Helvi Hämäläinen, Mika Waltari ja Väinö Linna.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has knowledge and understanding of the traditions, styles and genres of Finnish literature, of the most important texts and the authors and the skills to analyse of the texts in the context of world literature, historical-cultural and social context.
