Course aims

To learn the regularities of child development by way of different quantitative and qualitative methods, the application of methods regarding the individualisation and differentiation of studies and the assessment of results.

Brief description of the course

Prenatal development of a child, its physiological, behavioural and cultural distinctiveness. Sensory and motor functions of the newly-born and that of the infant. Perception and motor development in infants. Change in the phases of sleep and wakefulness. The second year of life: motor development, activity development, development of imitation. Development of speech during the first two years of life. Development in pre-school. Development in school. Development of deductive logic in school conditions. A childs cognitive development. Social development in school. Research on school-aged children. Essence and trends of psycho-diagnostics. More important psycho-diagnostic measures and relevant requirements. Studying inter-variability and intra-variability in children. Determination of childrens mental abilities.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
Loengud, lapse põhjalik tundmaõppimine nii kvalitatiivsete kui ka kvantitatiivsete meetodite abil. Iseseisva tööna kogutud materjali põhjal portfoolio koostamine. Rühmatööna portfoolio analüüs ja arutelu.
