Course aims
To master basic research skills (problem analysis, correct selection and application of research methods), conventions and ethics, and to express oneself in a comprehensive manner in the academic context.
Brief description of the course
The master’s thesis includes thorough independent research and analysis on a chosen subject, relying on contemporary theories and research methods. The research process follows the research life cycle of a specific field: the problem setting, research questions/hypothesis, a theoretical framework/literature review, data collection and analytical methods and techniques, presentation of results and discussion, research formalization (scientific language and style, referencing).
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- is able to define and articulate a significant research or design question, and strategically apply advanced research or design methods to address it;
- can independently plan, manage, and sustain progress toward the completion of a master’s thesis project;
- is capable to produce a scholarly and professionally presented thesis that demonstrates critical engagement with literature and design excellence;
- can engage confidently in academic and professional discussions, demonstrating mastery of the subject and awareness of the broader impact of the research.
