Course aims
The aim of the course is to enable students to gain insight into the game industry, the basics of the game industry, its’ internal and external drivers, stakeholders. Also to introduce a variety of business models, strategies and their implementation.
Brief description of the course
The course of Game industry will cover following topics:
1) Introduction to the game industry and business models
2) Game industry fundamentals and process model
3) Roles and jobs of game industry
4) Game marketing and project management
5) Game products and services, production model by the example of Creative Mobile -
6) Game DevDays conference -
7) IGDA Estonia gatherings -
Independent work
All students are expected to prepare and present a seminar presentation as formative coursework.
Learning outcomes in the course
After successful completion the students will share:
- knowledge of theoretical approaches to gaming as a business;
- ability to analyze the business models;
- ability to evaluate the potential of the games;
- insight into recent developments in the field of game industry.
Assessment methods
The course ends with the exam, but there will be no traditional final event. Although attending the GameDev Days conference can be treated as one of
such events. The final exam result will be based on total amount of points earned through the entire course for individual assignments.
