Brief description of the course
This course provides an overview of the major periods in Estonian history and historiography, while developing students’ ability to discuss topics both orally and in writing. The classroom component consists of lectures that provide a general overview of the subject and seminars that explore specific issues.
This course covers the major processes and concepts of Estonian history up to the early 18th century, along with the historiography of regional historical research; provides an overview of the main periods of Estonian history and historiography in a regional context, and develops students’ thematic discussion skills through seminars. The classroom component consists of lectures that provide a general overview of the subject and seminars that explore specific issues.

Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- is familiar with the historiography and primary sources of Estonia’s medieval and early modern periods and knows the key concepts;
