Course aims
To provide the possibility for a deep insight into the principal sources, events, the social and political structures, ideological concepts of, and the main research problems concerning the societies of the ancient Near East.
Brief description of the course
History, society, religion and culture of Ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, Canaan and Anatolia. Course begins with birth of Sumerian and Egyptian civilisations and ends with the surrender of the entire region under the rule of Greeks and Macedonians in 4th century BC.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
Üliõpilane tunneb muistse Lähis-Ida ajaloo olulisemaid uurimisprobleeme ja näeb nende erinevaid lahendusvõimalusi. Orienteerub muistse Lähis-Ida ajalugu puudutavates tähtsamates allikates ja historiograafias, näeb allikate erinevaid tõlgendusvõimalusi.
