Course aims
The objective of this course is to teach and provide knowledge of small states and their role in international arena. The aim is to introduce students to the security environment in Nordic-Baltic region.
Brief description of the course
Students will be introduced to theories such as realism, neoliberalism and constructivism to understand what the differences between these theories are and how they are relevant for small states. This course will provide students with knowledge about security environment in Nordic-Baltic region and the cooperation throughout different levels including international organizations and bilateral relations.
Students will be divided into groups, they will have to prepare essays over the topic of Nordic-Baltic Cooperation. Students also will be obligated to review their colleague’s essays and present their findings.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- is able to recognize different theories in international relations and apply them to small states;
- understands the principles of Baltic-Nordic region.
