Course aims
Supporting subject. Russian for special purposes. The course is aimed at those learners whose Russian language proficiency is at B1 (intermediate) level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The aim is to acquire command of Russian at B2 level (upper intermediate) according to CEFR. Acquisition of the specialisation terminology in Russian.
Brief description of the course
Integrated development of all four language skills. Extra emphasis on the vocabulary of speciality in Russian. Translation problems. Bilingualism. Work on texts chosen in accordance with the students’ specialities. Discussions on topics of speciality. Compiling overviews based on source materials. Principles of compiling a summary of bachelor´s thesis. Compiling and making an oral presentation. Reading specialised literature. Principles of writing an essay.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- understands longer speech, reports and news on common and specialised topics;
- understands specialisation articles;
- is able to express his/her opinions and justify in speech and writing;
- is able to write an essay, an overview and different types of letters;
- is able to compile and present a report related to specialisation.
