Course aims
- Critically discuss the foundations of adult education by using critical studies and theories;
- To increase knowledge and understanding of diverse adult education traditions, their legacy and potential for responsive adult education and professionalism;
- To expose urgent local and planetary challenges for adult education and to study theoretically and practically grounded responses.
Brief description of the course
The course focuses on the conceptual frameworks and foundations of adult education from international, comparative and practical perspectives. It discusses critical theories and characteristics of adult education for social change, in relation to culture, justice and wellbeing. It includes dialogue between theories and practice. The course combines face-to-face seminars, web-based tasks in the small groups. Study visits and observation will be part of the course.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- awareness of urgent challenges and conceptual framework in adult education, and ability to develop critical thinking;
- reflection and ability to use critical approches in case analysis;
- understanding the diversity of adult education traditions, their potential and limitations.
