Course aims

To introduce canonical texts of Islam.

Brief description of the course

Every religion has its own texts (so called canonical texts). During the course students will be introduced to main types of canonical texts of Islam (Quran and its commentary; Sunna, prophetic biographies etc main historical texts of Islam; basic texts of Islamic Law) with a knowledge how to read and analyze them.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- has been familiarized with about a dozen canonical texts of Islam.
