Brief description of the course
The course provides an overview of the complex relationships between culture and communication, as well as the impact of the development of mass communication on culture. The influence of culture on mass media is examined, and the role of mass media is analyzed in sociological, psychological, economic, political, and philosophical contexts.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- analyzes and interprets the complex relationships between culture and communication by applying relevant theoretical approaches (e.g. Marxism, postmodernism, etc.);
- explains the historical development of mass communication and its impact on contemporary culture, and analyzes the role of culture in the development of mass media;
- interprets phenomena of mass media and their impact within sociological, psychological, economic, political, and philosophical contexts;
- applies interdisciplinary academic approaches to the investigation and critical evaluation of field-specific issues.
