Course aims
An indepth teaching of the substantive legal remedies of European Union. Study of European law, namely the basic concepts and principles. A particular focus on the preliminary ruling system, and legal issues related to the interpretation models of European law.
Brief description of the course
The course will address the various disputed settlement procedures before the EU courts. It will cover the preliminary ruling procedure, action for annulment, Treaty infringement procedures and action for damages. More specifically, the course deals with the architecture of the Legal remedies system of the European Union (EU), the differences in procedures under the first and the third pillars of the EU. Also new developments envisaged in the Treaty of Lisbon will be dealt with.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- is able to understand and identify the European union legal remedies when presented by facts or legal facts of a hypothetical case
