Course aims
The main aim of the course is to offer the students an overview of the main themes in contemporary legal theory. In addition, the course will aim to develop the analytical skills of the students by making them attentive to the theoretical issues that can arise in the everyday practice of law.
Brief description of the course
The course will cover a wide variety of topics in jurisprudence and the different branches of law, e.g. criminal law, contract law and constitutional law. Each lecture will introduce the students to one broad theme, such as the relationship between natural and positive law, the theory of punishment, the distinction between law and equity, etc. These introducuctory lectures will be followed by seminars where same issues will be discussed through the prism of well-known plays. The last part of the course will look at some of the major theoretical currents of the 20th century.
