Course aims
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the nature
of societal problems, from the perspective of social work
and social sciences. We analyze the phenomenon of social
innovation, social entrepreneurship, social capital, the
emergence of new solutions approaching societal issues.
Brief description of the course
The course provides a more comprehensive overview on
social innovation, theories of change and the importance
of the social dimension of development and innovation.
Subjects cover the following topics:  Social change theories;  The nature of social innovation;  Social entrepreneurship as a tool for sustainable
social innovation
 The impact and benefits of social capital in
society
 Measuring and assessing social innovation, Social
impact, social bonds, Social Return of Investment
(SROI)
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- can explain the essence of social innovation and compare the treatment of different innovation theori;
- can describe various components of social innovation and their content;
- can analyze the impact, needs and opportunities of social innovation in society;
- can describe the creation of social entreprises on the example of the private and public sectors;
- knows different approaches to measuring social innovation.
