Brief description of the course
The notion of artistic text. Syntagmatic relationships in a text. Fable and plot. An introduction to narratology. Paradigmatic relationships in a text. The concept of verse and types of versification. An introduction to verse theory. The notion of the konstruktivnyi printsip (constructive principle). Text as a semiotic object.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- distinguishes syntagmatic and paradigmatic relations in texts;
- applies the metalanguage of general text theory in independent textual analysis;
- independently analyses literary texts from the perspective of intertextual relations.
