Course aims
To give knowledge of the basic concepts, terms and problems of literary criticism; to give a basis of commenting, the analysis and interpretation of the literary text.
Brief description of the course
Problems and methods of poetics. Fabula and plot. A problem of the author and the narrator in the text. The “text in the text” as a problem of poetics. Bases of the structural analysis of the literary text. Immanent and subtextual analysis. The semantic, stylistic, verse analysis of the text. The analysis and interpretation as two aspects of understanding of the text.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- understands the goals and methods of analysis of a literary text;
- knows and understands the metalanguage of analysis and interpretation of a literary text;
- is able to analyze literary text.
