Course aims
The purpose of the course is to cover the issues of Baltic near history in the Nordic and East-Central European context, structural inter-dependency between the social, political and cultural development and the basic knowledge on Baltic historiography on 20th century.
Brief description of the course
A first part of the course is focused on explaining of political history and comparison of regimes, which emerged in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in the first half of 20th century. Second part of courses impact of the Soviet regime on the Baltic societies is analysed. Last part of the course display these socio-political conditions which made possible Baltic "Singing Revolution". All developments in the Baltic states are analysed in East-Central European context.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows and understands the political developments in the Baltic states during the 20th century and can analyse them.
