Brief description of the course
The course covers the following topics: what is public opinion, historical background of the concept public opinion, main theoretical approaches, methodological aspects and measuring problems of sociological research on public opinion, how to use researhes of public opinion, how political opinions and attitudes form, the role of public opinion in democracy, how does media influence the development of public opinion, etc.
Lectures and seminars, participation in seminars is compulsory. Students have to compose a research project on public opinion as a group work and present it to others. Every group has to act as an opponent to some other group of students.

Upon completing the course the student:
In the end of the course students should be able to:
define the term public opinion and explain different approaches to the concept.
understand the specifics of researching public opinion as a sociological concept.
Ability to compile a short questionnaire for studying public opinion and interpret and present the results of the research to others.
